We welcome everyone to the Moon Party at the Betsie Valley District Library, Sept. 27, 2019! Bob Moler will present a Twilight Talk at 7PM on the Apollo Missions and Moon Race. Fifty years ago, humans first landed on the Moon with the Apollo 11 mission; the culmination of developments in answer to John F. Kennedy's call to “landing a man on the Moon and returning him safely to the Earth before the end of the decade.” We'll look at the US space program and the competition with the Soviet Union. And their last ditch attempt to return samples from the Moon while Apollo 11 was in flight, and before the Apollo capsule would splash down on Earth. If weather permits, the GTAS will be setting up their telescopes to view the moon from 8PM—10:30PM. If the weather becomes inclement, we will try and reschedule the telescope observation on a future date.
