Third Coast Dance Company presents “In The Blue Hour”, a forty minute modern dance performed by a company of professional dancers, Friday, July 21 at 7:30PM The performance will take place in Hardy Hall, tickets will be $10 at the door. “In The Blue Hour” is about living life in a continually shifting state (uncertainty) and how we navigate it - chaos or order. Seven women in simple white costumes navigate the intimate gallery space; trading roles, dancing together and apart, the result is an enigmatic dance that is brave, humorous, and hopeful. “In The Blue Hour” takes its cue from the the French expression “l'heure bleue” which is the period of twilight each morning and evening where there is neither full daylight nor complete darkness. Choreographer Kristen Bennett, one of two the co-founders of Third Coast Dance Company grew up in central Michigan; her early training was in jazz and rhythm-based dance forms, she continues to practice and teach many different styles of dance including jazz, tap, ballet, modern, hip-hop, musical theatre and social dance. Kristen earned her B.A. in Dance and English from Grand Valley State University. Lynn Bowman, also a co-founder, grew up in Iowa, has a B.A. in Theater/Dance and studied dance in London and attended the University of Iowa as an Iowa Arts Fellow and completed her MFA in Dance with a specialization in Choreography. Third Coast Dance Company (TCDC) is a mid-Michigan based dance company that is committed to creating local, quality, accessible modern dance. The goal of TCDC is to make dances about the people, place, and community that they inhabit while taking an experiential and collaborative approach to dance creation, education, and performance. Launching the company in April of 2016 with three professional dancers, the company has tripled in size and has been a smashing success. Kristen and Lynn noted that Central Michigan was bursting at the seams with dance studios and higher education programs for dancers but lacked a professional modern dance company.
