Event Description:
“ADVENTURES IN BEEKEEPING”, presented by Rick Dimanin! Come and learn about the ancient craft of beekeeping! We will explore hive types, (hives are where the bees live); protective gear; honey bee biology/behavior; what are honey, wax, and propolis & how are they made and used by the bees and humans. Rick will teach us about starting beekeeping and/or a small beekeeping business. Finally, are you made out for beekeeping, we'll look at that possibility, also. You will have a chance to win one of Rick's delicious bottles of honey! Rick will have an Observation Beehive with live bees and honeycomb for us to observe! Rick has been beekeeping for more than 10 years and has managed 30 and 40 colonies of honeybees in 5 different locations, each of which is called an "apiary”. Rick is on the Board of Directors of the Michigan Beekeeping Association; The Southeast Michigan Beekeepers Association and represents Michigan nationally as a delegate of the American Beekeeping Association and the Eastern Apicultural Society. Rick has completed Cornell University's Master Beekeeping Program in 2022 and often mentors local beekeepers.
